Last Friday, I went with Andrew, Chris, George, and Becca to China Town in Sydney to go get street food. Every Friday in China Town, a bunch of restaurants and vendors cook outside, and people can come by and order whatever they want.
I hadn't been there before, and wanted to spend this last week wisely in doing things that either I have not done, or I loved and wanted to do again. There was everything at street food from octopus on a stick, to chicken feet, to Chinese hotdogs, to just plain dumplings.

Chris, who does not eat sushi or anything outrageous, decided to get the octopus on a stick. It looked absolutely disgusting, and by his facial expression when he bit into it, I was not about to try it. George has had the chicken feet before, and said when you suck on the toes, the knuckles sometimes pop up! EW! I was not about to try any of those things, so instead I got chicken dumplings.
On Saturday, George and I went shopping along Oxford Street and went to Paddington Market. I have never really been to both of those areas, so we decided to explore for the afternoon. At night, Oxford Street is known for their gay bars, which is why we never head in that direction on the weekend. Out of all of the markets I have been too, Paddington had the nicest stuff, but a lot of it was not very unique. There were a lot of clothing vendors and plant vendors. I think that market is a market that is made for locals, not for people like me looking for something unique.
On Monday, Rochelle and I went to Wildlife World and the Sydney Tower. Since we both have a pass, we decided to go one last time (unless I go with my family). I have been both places before, but am always up in going to a zoo. Wildlife World is a cool place to go because the majority of the animals are native to Australia, and not from around the world. It gives you a glimpse of what is out there, especially in the Outback. When we got there, we went straight to the koalas, because they are so cute! For the first time, I saw a koala up and eating leaves from a tree. Since koalas sleep 20 hours a day, it was perfect timing for me to see it. They were so cute and I just wanted to cuddle them all day!
The kangaroos were all sleeping when we went, and would not wake up for their feeding time. Last time, I was able to take a picture with one, but they were all sleeping so it was impossible.
There were so many cool looking animals that are all native to Australia. Here are some of them!
The most dangerous bird in the world. It uses its middle toe as a dagger, and can kill a person in a second with it.
I even got to take pictures with a few of the animals!
Me and a Wombat!
I really wanted to go back to the Sydney Tower because now I know a majority of the city and where everything is now in relation to something else. It was a great reflection on my semester in Sydney, and my travels throughout the country. I was very proud of myself for being able to find where everything was without someone telling me since I am so bad with directions.

Once leaving the tower, Rochelle had to head back home to study. I walked around the city for a while, and then decided to go into the Queen Victoria Building. This building was completed in 1898, and was Sydney's first marketplace. It occupies an entire city block it is so big. The building is super nice on the outside, and especially the inside. Most of the shops are upper-end shops and really nice boutiques. I think I will have to keep my sister out of there when she visits!
Yesterday and today (Tuesday and Wednesday) I have been getting things together, packing up my room, and hanging out with my friends before departing in 2 days. I went to all you can eat sushi last night with Becca, Andrew, Chris, George, and Devin. I am going to miss that place! There is a huge train that brings the sushi plates around, and you grab whatever you want off of the train.
I am really excited for my family to come in 2 days! We skyped today for the last time, and in 2 days, I will get to see them in person. Wow, the time has flown by!
Tonight, there are 18 people coming over to my apartment for a goodbye dinner. Everyone is making something, and we are going to have one big feast. It is going to be a sad dinner saying goodbye, but luckily, most of them I am able to see in the states.
I will update my blog one or two more times before Friday. As for now, I am off to cleaning up before my friends come over and making the fruit salad for tonight!
Heaps of Love,
Heidi
